Scouts & Scouters,

Opportunities to serve Scouting as a member of the Summer Camp staff are available to exceptional applicants.

Camp Emerson at Boseker Scout Reservation is dedicated to supporting each troop's outdoor and advancement program while giving each scout an enriching long-term camping experience, strengthening their outdoor skills and building camaraderie.

The California Inland Empire Council follows the following hiring practices and procedures for all applicants that are considered for positions.

As an equal opportunity employer, the California Inland Empire Council accepts applications for summer camp staff positions (volunteer or paid) regardless of sex, race, religion or creed, as long as that individual is at least 14 years of age and willing to adhere to the principles and policies of the Boy Scouts of America. The hiring procedure and requirements include:

The consideration of an applicant for employment will be finalized after references, verification of work histories and, if over 18 years of age, fingerprinting results from the Department of Justice.
  1. At time of hire the employee is given their job description

In addition to the above, the minimum age accepted is 16; 14 for Counselors in Training. Boy Scouts of America standards require ages 18 and 21 minimum for some positions.  As a member of Camp Staff, the following are requirements:

University of Scouting Registration

??CIEC is proud to present the first EVER Quest for University of Scouting!
??Starting January 15th, there will be a daily post on our U of S Facebook page with information on how to rack up points and participate in our exciting Quest by taking pictures of the world around you. All of this while staying safe and having fun with your family.
Let’s answer those questions!??
1 – What do we get by earning points? ??
Each week, we will have a leader board with the top 3 participants. Each will get a prize!
At the end of the 5-week event, there will be 3 Grand Prize Winners for the top overall participants!
2 – How do we earn points? ??
There are SEVERAL ways to earn points!!
• Each day, you can post a picture for a “base” 10 points. You can find those on the calendar below. But, when we post each day, we will add a bonus 5 points if you enhance your picture by doing something extra!
• If you post a picture every day of the 7-day period, you get an extra 50 points for 100% participation
• If at any point during the 5-week event, you pledge or donate to the 2021 Friends of Scouting campaign, you will get AN EXTRA 100 POINTS!!!!
• During the event, each week will have points to register for University of Scouting. The sooner you register, the more points you get! Easy-peasy.
3 – What are the rules? ??
• Each picture must be shared publicly to your own personal profile.
• Each picture must be posted using the hashtag #CIECQuest4UofS
• In order to prove the photo was taken specifically for this challenge, the words “2021 University of Scouting” MUST be visible within your photo! You can hold up a paper with the words printed on it or get creative! As long as we can read it, it counts!
• You may not post pictures of children who are not yours.
??IMPORTANT??: If these rules are not followed, your picture will not be counted for points.

Martin Luther King Jr.

Martin Luther King Jr., the American civil rights hero whose life we celebrate every year around this time, was a Boy Scout.

Just typing that gives me chills. It’s a fact that should make Scouts everywhere remarkably proud.

I had read rumors online claiming MLK was a Boy Scout, but this week I got confirmation: From age 11 to age 13, King was registered as a member of Troop 151 in Atlanta.

The handwritten troop charter renewal forms include the name of King’s father, Martin Luther King Sr., who was the troop’s chartered organization representative.

The troop met at Ebenezer Baptist Church, now part of the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site. Both King men served as pastors there.

It is pleasing to know Scouting is still alive and well at Ebenezer today. Troop and Pack 213 meet there every other Sunday.

Those young Scouts must feel so proud to meet at the same spot where one of our nation’s greatest heroes once donned the Boy Scout uniform.
