| Summer Camp | | Camp Emerson Merit Badges and Camp Wiley Adventure Loops There will be a Lions Program this year at Camp Wiley! | | Venturing | | Hello CIEC Venturers and Advisors, Let me introduce myself. I am John Vineyard and I am the new Council Venturing Chair. I just completed a three-year term as the Mt. Rubidoux District Chair, and I am the Advisor for Crew 5330 in Riverside. I appreciate the work that our 2018-19 and its Advisors have been doing. I have two goals as the Council Venturing Chair. First, to generally invigorate our council Venturing program, establishing new crews, helping the existing crews grow and stay healthy and providing for council wide Venturing Training for Venturers and adult leaders. Second, we will be making changes in the structure and operation of the VOA to try to involve Venturers and Advisors from throughout the council. The changes will be effective with the VOA year starting after the Rendezvous in April, and will not be dramatic. We also have a new professional Venturing Advisor, Jacob Peykani. If you have not already met him, we’ll make sure that you do soon. We are going to have several informational meetings in March and April. In the meantime, I will be travelling around the council, visiting with crews to promote the VOA and the Venturing program in general, and to find dates for those informational meetings that work for as many Venturers and leaders as possible. I hope to meet with each of you as I visit your crews. Mr. Downs and Mr. Fairbrother will continue to work with the current VOA officers to prepare for the Rendezvous this year (April 26-28 at Camp Emerson), and I’m sure they will remain actively involved as VOA Advisors as we move to the new VOA structure. One change will be replacing VOA elections with an application process. I’ll be forming a committee to review applications for next year’s leadership positions. We are going to do our best to have a VOA representative from each of the seven districts in the council. I’ll be visiting your crew meetings soon, and I look forward to meeting each of you. In the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact me if you have questions, suggestions or ideas. I can be reached at CIECVenturingChair@gmail.com. | | Shooting Sports | | | | Troop 13 Ladder Canyon Outing | | Troop 13's latest outing (February 9 - 10, 2019) in Ladder Canyon, Mecca Hills Wilderness. For as long as can be remembered one of the Scouts has carried this flag on every backpacking trek and campout. The flag is attached to a 3' wooden dowel and is secured to the backpack in a Scout-made holder. It has become a Troop 13 tradition that has been passed on from each generation and continues to occur without any mention or reminding from the adults in the Troop. This is something our Scouts take pride in displaying and leaving their legacy and history within the Troop. This is a great example of Scouts showing their Duty to Country and their love and respect for our flag. | | Good Turn by a Troop 384 Scout | | Darrin B. a First Class Scout with Troop 384 in Temecula, dedicated several hours to assisting special needs children in Temecula Youth Basketball League's (TYBL) first ever "Champion Division." Darrin volunteered as a "Buddy" player, mentor and coach for the children aged 5-17 years old. Jeff Logan, the President of TYBL, said, "While serving in this capacity, Darrin did a tremendous job of making the players feel comfortable and have fun on the court. This young man should be recognized for the way he represented himself and the entire team of Troop 384." We are very proud of Darrin for living by the Scout Oath and Law to be a friend to all and help others at all times! | | Scouts BSA Troop 54 | | Corona Girl Troop 54 eagerly kicked off their program in Scouts BSA on February 1. The group has been preparing for the official launch of Scouts BSA, recruiting new members and learning about Scouts and Scout skills. Leaders and Scouts from Corona boy Troops 13, 54, 421, 1111 and Crew 107, and Fullerton's Troop 292 welcomed the Scouts by helping them earn rank advancements for the very first time, signing off in their still fresh Scout Handbooks. Troop 54’s founders are off to a great start - they enjoyed their first campout this weekend, rock climbing in Joshua Tree! The girls are very excited to be part of the great adventure on the Trail to Eagle! .jpg) | | Scouting Safely | | | | Scout Shop | | | Cartoon Corner | | | Thoughts from the Council: | | | | | Monday Memo is from the Council and contains our reflection on what is happening within the Council.
