Purpose:

To provide professional lifeguards for BSA operated facilities, council aquatics committees, and year-round aquatics programming. In addition, this training is intended to meet the requirements of government agencies for operations at a regulated swimming venue.

Required Paperwork – Needed Upon Arrival

• BSA Annual Health and Medical Record, Parts A, B1, and B2.
• Show evidence of current training in the BSA Safe Swim Defense.
  • Go to my.scouting.org to complete this.
• Show evidence of completion of the online portion of CPR.
  • Access will be given to the students by the instructor once they sign up for the course.

Pre-requisites:

• Must be 15 years of age or older as of April 13, 2024.
• Completion of Lifesaving Merit Badge or BSA Aquatics Supervision: Swimming and Water Rescue course highly recommended.

Required Skills Check:

• Must complete the following upon arrival of the first day.
  • Complete the BSA Swim Check.
  • After the swim check, continue to swim 450 yards using in good form using the front crawl or breaststroke or a combination of either.  Swimming on the back or side is not allowed.
  • Immediately following the above swim, tread water for two minutes with the legs only and the hands under the armpits.
  • Starting in the water, swim 20 yards using a front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive 7 to 10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, surface, swim on your back with the object 20 yards back to the starting point with both hands holding the object, and exit the water, all within 1 minute, 40 seconds.

2 Towels
Sunscreen
Water Bottle
Flip Flops/ Sandals
Chair
Lunch for both days
