Sunrise District Day of Service

The massive storm that hit southern California on February 14 damaged many hiking trails due to the flash flooding at the Coachella Valley Preserve. The damage was extensive and local Scout units answered the call to service.

On Saturday, March 23,  136 Scouts and Scouters attended the service project with representation from 9 troops and 2 cub scout packs. Scouts from across the Coachella Valley trimmed and removed brush, repaired trials, and moved over 100 tons of dirt. Yes, they moved over 100 tons of dirt!

After checking sources from local long time Scouting families, it can be confirmed that this was the largest BSA Sunrise District service project in over 30 years with over 624 service hours earned from this single service project.

Troop 62 hits the trail

Troop 62 in Mt. Rubidoux District  participated on its first backpack, just three weeks after forming Feb. 1. The eight Scouts  hiked two miles to Fisherman's Camp in the San Mateo Canyon Wilderness of the Santa Ana Mountains. Five adults, two of them on their first backpack, joined the Scouts on the overnighter. The Scouts completed  most of the Tenderfoot rank that weekend! They also earned their Totin' Chip card! This troop soars!

Eagle Recognition Dinner

On Saturday March 23rd the California Inland Empire Council celebrated the 2018 class of Eagle Scouts. In 2018 the CIEC was proud to have 402 Scouts achieve the rank of Eagle.

Also that night there was 4 NESA Outstanding Eagles Scout Awards were presented. The recipients were Roger Luebs, Mike Soubirous, Brian N. Hawley, and Michael A. Sanford.

The CIEC is also please to recognize the 2018 Glen A. & Melinda W. Adams National Eagle Scout Service Project of the Year to Chase Cordon of Troop 444

Distinguished Eagle Scout Award

Dr. Ronald L. Ellis, president of California Baptist University, received the National Distinguished Eagle Scout Award from the Boy Scouts of America during the Mt. Rubidoux District’s Distinguished Citizen Dinner held on March 20.

The Distinguished Eagle Scout Award is given to an individual who has earned the rank of Eagle Scout at least 25 years prior to nomination and distinguished himself in his chosen field of endeavor beyond a local area. Dr Ellis is only the 18th recipient to honored as Distinguished Eagle Scouts by the California Inland Empire Council

National Trails Day

National Trails Day Shoreline Cleanup Service Project at Lake Perris SRA, Potluck Lunch, Canoe & Kayak Games

Saturday, June 1, 2019

Attention all venturing crews, Order of the Arrow members, Sea Scouts, and Boy Scout Troops and their families. Venturing Crew 76, the CIEC Outdoor Ethics Committee, and the Aca Chapter of Cahuilla Lodge will be hosting a shoreline cleanup at Lake Perris SRA as part of our celebration of National Trails Day.The service project will be from 7:30AM to 11:30AM on Saturday, June 1, at Lake Perris State Recreation Area. We will be forming groups to pick up trash on foot from the eastern shoreline of the lake and sending groups out in canoes and kayaks to collect trash from the riparian shorelines that are more difficult to access.

After the service project we will be gathering at Sail Cove (located on the northwest portion of the lake next to the dam) for a potluck lunch and canoe and kayak games. Games will be a DIY canoe sail race, canoe sailboat race, and kayak & canoe ultimate frisbee. To register to attend please email acachapter@gmail.com and let us know what you will be bringing to the potluck and if you would like to be in a canoe, kayak, or on foot for the service project. The availability of canoes and kayaks are limited, so please register early. Dishes for the potluck should be able to serve 10 people.

Promoted by the American Hiking Society, National Trails Day recognizes all the incredible benefits federal, state and local trails provide for recreation and exposure nature. Events held throughout the United States help promote awareness of the wide variety of services the trails systems offer. National Trails Day encourages people to discover their local trials, become active concerning trail issues and share their excitement for the outdoors.
