Joe's Retirement Annoucement

To our Scouting Family,

It is with mixed emotion that we announce the retirement of our Scout Executive, Joseph Daniszewski. Joe and Leah came to us in 2009 amid the worst financial crisis to hit the California Inland Empire Council and our communities. Joe, an Eagle Scout, has served as a professional Scouter since 1986, having served in the Crossroads of America Council in Indianapolis, IN., the San Francisco Bay Area Council, the Las Vegas Area Council, becoming Scout Executive of the Catalina Council in Tucson, AZ. And finally taking on the mantle of Scout Executive here at the California Inland Empire Council.

Joe is married to Leah, who has brought to the Inland Empire an elegance and grace that will be hard to match. Joe and Leah have two great sons; Michael, a Real Estate professional, and Joseph who is a Lieutenant in the United States Army. Both Michael and Joseph are Eagle Scouts.

Joe will leave behind a legacy of financial stewardship and transparency that is the envy of every council in the country. I’ve been a member of the Executive Board since 2008, and I can say unequivocally that our Council’s wellbeing has been on Joe’s mind since the day he was hired to be our Scout Executive. Through force of will and a dogged determination, Joe has, with the help of the professionals and support staff of the California Inland Empire Council, as well as an engaged Executive Board, righted the ship putting CIEC on an even keel financially.

Joe’s last day with CIEC will be November 30th, 2017. I know we will all miss Joe and Leah, but I also know we are excited about what their future will be. We will plan an opportunity for our volunteers to come and congratulate Joe and Leah on the next leg of life’s adventure. It is doubtful that either of them are going to be sitting in a rocking chair and letting life pass them by.  Their community will be blessed with their energy and involvement.

On behalf of the Executive Board, staff and the Volunteers of the California Inland Empire Council, we would like to extend our most heartfelt Congratulations and Gratitude to Joe and Leah for their many wonderful years of service to Scouting and to our youth. May your continued journey be blessed beyond your wildest dreams.

JOTA

JOTA is coming, JOTA is coming!

Yes it that time of year when the annual JOTA (Jamboree on the Air) hits the airwaves and the net on the 3rd weekend of October.  Over that weekend of 20-22 Oct 2017, thousands of Scouts from around the world will be working those radios and Internet reaching out to contact other Scouts trying to do the same.

The theme for this years event is  “60 Years Connecting Scouts.”   This years theme recognizes the event’s beginnings in 1957 and commemorates its growth in participation and in the expanding communication channels activated this coming October. In addition to Amateur Radio, those channels include Internet-based channels and other Internet-based options, including social media, ScoutLink, IRC chat services, Skype, and more.

“It also recognizes the goal of the event — connecting Scouts so that they can engage in conversations with other Scouts across town and around the world,” said JOTA Coordinator Jim Wilson, K5ND. “This allows them to discover geographic and cultural differences and similarities. Plus, they are exposed to the technology that makes all this happen.”

The stations you’ll be communicating with can be across town, across the country, or even around the world! The World Scout Bureau reported that the 2016 JOTA had nearly 1.3 million Scout participants from more than 30,000 locations, and reached 156 countries.  This included Scouts of any age who had participated, from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts and Venturers, including girls.

Further information can be obtained by looking at the BSA site or that of the ARRL.

Thoughts from the Scout Executive:

Positive Quote and Prayer
--------------------------------

"I have often urged my young friends, when faced with an adversary, to "play polo" with him; i.e., not to go at him bald-headed but to ride side by side with him and gradually edge him off your track. Never lose your temper with him. If you are in the right there is no need to, if you are in the wrong you can't afford to."

~Robert Baden-Powell

Prayer of Saint Francis

Lord make me an instrument of your peace
Where there is hatred let me sow love
Where there is injury, pardon
Where there is doubt, faith
Where there is despair, hope
Where there is darkness, light
And where there is sadness, joy

O divine master grant that I may
not so much seek to be consoled as to console
to be understood as to understand
To be loved as to love
For it is in giving that we receive
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned
And it's in dying that we are born to eternal life
Amen
