I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal."
I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia, the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.
I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a state sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.
I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.
I have a dream today!

2012 Adams Eagle Scout Project Award Nominations Due January 20th
The nomination for the Glenn A. and Melinda W. Adams National Eagle Scout Service Project of the Year Award is now available on the NESA website (in the far-right column).
This year marks the third year of the award. In 2010, Eagle Scouts from 35 councils participated. The national winner that first year was from the Baltimore Area Council. In 2011, 88 councils participated, and the national winner was chosen from the Central Florida Council. (View a three-minute video of the 2011 winning Eagle Scout project online at NESA.org.)
After all entries are received, the council-level NESA committee selects their winner. From these, regional committees select their winners and, from those four, the national winner is picked. The nomination procedures, deadlines, and award recognition items are listed on the back side of the application.
NESA Update
Good Afternoon Eagle Scouts,
On November 23rd, 120 Eagle Scouts for the California Inland Empire Council NESA Chapter took off in flight from March Air Force Base aboard a C17 and C135. The fight included an in flight refueling and various tactical maneuvers. A great time was had by all. I would like to take this time to thank Crew 444 and All of the men and women of the March Air Force Reserve Units that help make this flight possible. Do to time constraints on the flight we were not able to complete the Aviation Merit Badge. If you would like to complete the merit badge please contact Crew 444 Advisor Ken Goode @ kenneth.goode@us.af.mil , he will help make arrangements for you.
In March, our chapter will be hosting the councils Eagle Scout and NESA Recognition Dinner. All Class of 2011 Eagle Scouts will be invited to attend the dinner as guests of the NESA Chapter. Please help get the word out to your units, by forwarding the attached flyer, registration closes March 13th, 2012. As our economy recovers, I would like to ask those that can afford to help to consider sponsoring an Eagle Scout to the dinner. Sponsors will receive a commemorative Eagle Dinner CSP.
As a reminder January 21, 2012 is the last day to submit applications for the Adams Award and NOESA nominations to the council service center for review and consideration. I have attached the forms. For additional information go to: http://nesa.org/adams_award.html and http://nesa.org/outstanding_eagle.html
Applications for the Adams Award will be reviewed on January 24th at 6pm at the council service center. If you would like to help with this process please contact me.
In order to make these gathering happen though we will need some help. Our chapter currently is forming three sub committees:
The first committee will be responsible for our annual meeting – the councils Eagle Scout and NESA Recognition Dinner. The dinner is scheduled for March 30th and will be held at the March Air Field Museum. The dinner will honor our councils Eagle Scout Class of the past year. They will also oversee the nomination process for the Adams Eagle Scout Awards and the NESA Outstanding Eagle Scout Award. I will be chairing this event, but will need at least six other chapter members to help with the event. Click Here to Register
The second committee will be responsible for scheduling our gatherings, excluding our annual meeting. We will need a chairmen and support as the events occur. This person will need to make the reservations and oversee the coordination of the event. Ideas for events may include, visiting a crew and taking part in their specialty; attending a sporting event; visiting a location of interest; ECT. The chairperson will also be responsible for setting the dates of the gatherings. We are currently looking for a location for a date between June and August.
In the event that you cannot take part in one of our committees you can still help. Be active in your unit, district, and the council. Help get the word out about NESA and its scholarship programs for younger members. Help support Scouting in any way you can.
Show your support of the NESA Chapter by displaying our chapters Council Should Patch. The CSP can be purchased for $10.00 starting February 1st, at the council service center by contacting Virginia or you can contact me directly. For new chapter members an application must be completed and submitted to council. A CSP and certificate will be mailed out to the new member.
As NESA members the best way to help Scouting is to give back to those that helped you. Many of use act as mentors within our own units. Some give back in the form of service to their district and council. Others support the Scouting program as it continues to cross their pathways. I look forward to seeing you all at our next gathering. If you are interested in help with or heading up one of our committees please contact me at mkb969@verizon.net
Yours in Scouting, Mathew Brandt CIEC NESA Chapter Chairmen
Volunteers Needed!
Want to make a difference? Want to help decide who receives United Way funds?
Volunteers are needed to serve on Community Review Teams (CRT) to evaluate funding requests from our non-profit member agencies. The process is fun, interesting, and important. We need a wide variety of volunteers, from CEOs to college students, retirees, homemakers, donors, etc. to assure accountability for our donors’ contributions. Your Participation is Needed. Your Opinion Matters
Time Committment: Approximately 12-15 hours spread over six weeks from March thru mid April.
How Does It Work? Volunteers are placed in teams of 6 to 10 people who choose the same time frame for their service: mornings, afternoons or evenings. Each team will visit 3 to 4 non-profit agencies between March 19 and April 20, 2012. Teams will consist of a volunteer chairperson, a financial reviewer, both seasoned and new volunteers, and a United Way staff member to clarify funding policies.
Orientation Meeting: This MANDATORY meeting will provide volunteers with the knowledge and training to feel comfortable in this process. Dinner will be provided and team formations will be finalized. Volunteers need only to bring their calendars to determine the most convenient dates for the agency visits.
Orientation Meeting March 6, 2012 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Riverside County Office of Education - Conference Center 3958 – 12th Street, Riverside 92501

Major League Soccer and the BSA: A Perfect One-Two
Teamwork. As important in Scouting as it is in Major League Soccer. And both organizations strive to Be Prepared for the future.
Not a stretch, then, to understand why Scouting and the nation’s top professional soccer league announced today they’re on the same team. By forging a special collaboration with the nation’s top youth organization, MLS will use its network to support the BSA’s “youth-focused program of athleticism, character, and leadership.”
Beginning at the start of the soccer season in March, Scouts will receive special access to MLS games, players, coaches, and executives through unique on- and off-field programming designed specifically for Scout packs, troops, teams, and crews.
Check out a few of the plans announced today:
MLS will select units that conduct community service projects for in-game ceremonies at its stadiums.
MLS will hold “Scout Nights” at matches to help local councils achieve their recruiting and retaining goals.
Local MLS players and executives will stage formal discussions with Scouts on topics such as fitness and leadership — skills required in both organizations.
Like the perfect pass in soccer, the BSA and MLS timed today’s announcement to coincide with the MLS SuperDraft this afternoon in Kansas City. Uniformed Scouts from the Heart of America Council were recruited to deliver an official Adidas match ball to the stage. And, there’s more.
Each player selected in the draft signed (or will sign) the ball, which will be auctioned off on the official MLS Web site. Proceeds will benefit the Heart of America Council. Score!
So how do you take advantage of this new sponsorship? If you aren’t yet a soccer fan, it’s time to join the MLS team before the season kicks off on March 10.
Sixteen of the league’s 19 teams play in the United States — including at least one in each time zone. So no matter where you live, there’s an MLS match happening near you.
The American teams are: Chicago Fire, Chivas USA (Los Angeles), Colorado Rapids, Columbus Crew, D.C. United, FC Dallas, Houston Dynamo, LA Galaxy, New York Red Bulls, New England Revolution, Philadelphia Union, Portland Timbers, Real Salt Lake, San Jose Earthquakes, Seattle Sounders FC, and Sporting Kansas City.
Get more details from your local council about how to involve your unit. Or if you can’t wait, try contacting the team directly to see how your MLS club and your Scouts can team up.
As for me, this new alliance supplies even more reasons to support my hometown team, FC Dallas, and favorite player Brek Shea.
What about you? Show your pride in the BSA and your local MLS organization and share it with your Scout unit. Just another way to demonstrate that we’re all on the same team here.

A young man learns what's most important in life from the guy next door. It had been some time since Jack had seen the old man. College, girls, career, and life itself got in the way. In fact, Jack moved clear across the country in pursuit of his dreams. There, in the rush of his busy life, Jack had little time to think about the past and often no time to spend with his wife and son... He was working on his future, and nothing could stop him.
Over the phone, his mother told him, "Mr. Belser died last night The funeral is Wednesday." Memories flashed through his mind like an old newsreel as he sat quietly remembering his childhood days.
"Jack, did you hear me?" "Oh, sorry, Mom. Yes, I heard you. It's been so long since I thought of him… I'm sorry, but I honestly thought he died years ago," Jack said. "Well, he didn't forget you. Every time I saw him he'd ask how you were doing. He'd reminisce about the many days you spent over 'his side of the fence' as he put it," Mom told him. "I loved that old house he lived in," Jack said. "You know, Jack, after your father died, Mr. Belser stepped in to make sure you had a man's influence in your life," she said "He's the one who taught me carpentry," he said. "I wouldn't be in this business if it weren't for him. He spent a lot of time teaching me things he thought were important... Mom, I'll be there for the funeral," Jack said.
As busy as he was, he kept his word. Jack caught the next flight to his hometown. Mr. Belser's funeral was small and uneventful. He had no children of his own, and most of his relatives had passed away.
The night before he had to return home, Jack and his Mom stopped by to see the old house next door one more time.
Standing in the doorway, Jack paused for a moment. It was like crossing over into another dimension, a leap through space and time. The house was exactly as he remembered. Every step held memories. Every picture, every piece of furniture... Jack stopped suddenly.
"What's wrong, Jack?" his Mom asked. "The box is gone," he said. "What box?" Mom asked.
"There was a small gold box that he kept locked on top of his desk I must have asked him a thousand times what was inside. All he'd ever tell me was 'the thing I value most,'" Jack said. It was gone. Everything about the house was exactly how Jack remembered it, except for the box... He figured someone from the Belser family had taken it.
"Now I'll never know what was so valuable to him," Jack said. "I better get some sleep. I have an early flight home, Mom."
It had been about two weeks since Mr. Belser died Returning home from work one day Jack discovered a note in his mailbox. "Signature required on a package. No one at home. Please stop by the main post office within the next three days," the note read. Early the next day Jack retrieved the package... The small box was old and looked like it had been mailed a hundred years ago. The handwriting was difficult to read, but the return address caught his attention. "Mr. Harold Belser" it read. Jack took the box out to his car and ripped open the package. There inside was the gold box and an envelope. Jack's hands shook as he read the note inside.
"Upon my death, please forward this box and its contents to Jack Bennett. It's the thing I valued most in my life." A small key was taped to the letter. His heart racing, as tears filling his eyes, Jack carefully unlocked the box. There inside he found a beautiful gold pocket watch.
Running his fingers slowly over the finely etched casing, he unlatched the cover. Inside he found these words engraved:
"Jack, Thanks for your time! - Harold Belser." "The thing he valued most was... my time"
Jack held the watch for a few minutes, then called his office and cleared his appointments for the next two days. "Why?" Janet, his assistant asked.
"I need some time to spend with my son," he said. "Oh, by the way, Janet, thanks for your time!" "Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take but by the moments that take our breath away,"
Think about this. You may not realize it, but it's 100% true.
1. At least 2 people in this world love you so much they would die for you. 2. At least 15 people in this world love you in some way. 3. Every night, SOMEONE thinks about you before they go to sleep. 4. You mean the world to someone. 5. If not for you, someone may not be living. 6. When you make the biggest mistake ever, something good can still come from it. 7. When you think the world has turned its back on you, take a look: you most likely turned your back on the world. 8. Always remember the compliments you received. Forget about the rude remarks. 9. If you have a great friend, take the time to let them know that they are great.
Send this letter to all the people you care about, if you do so, you will certainly brighten someone's day and might change their perspective on life...for the better.
To everyone I sent this to " Thanks for your time".

"If you give your life to a cause in which you believe, and if it is right and just, and if your life comes to an end as a result of this, then your life could not have been spent in a more redemptive way. I think that is what my husband has done."
