Save the Dates 2014 Leadership Traning Courses Wood Badge Wood Badge is a leadership training designed for all adult Scouters. The course incorporates traditions of over 90 years of Wood Badge, while adding the management and leadership training necessary to be successful as a leader. It is more than a classroom- it is games and hands-on projects. You will come away with an appreciation of Scouting’s heritage as well as a dream for the role you will play in its future- the impact you will make on the youth. The course is a two-weekend, fun filled practical training period where Scouters live as a member of a team progressing through Scouting, and learning the skills of leadership. The application phase is completed at home, by implementing the skills learned by accomplishing a series of written goals called a “ticket.” 2014 Course Dates: Spring: May 1-3 and May 15-17 (Thursday-Saturday) Fall: August 22-24 and September 5-7 (Friday-Sunday) National Youth Leadership Training NYLT is advanced leadership training for youth troop, team, and crew leaders and welcomes both young men and women. NYLT is an exciting, action packed program designed to provide youth members in Scouting with leadership skills and experience they can use in their home units while teaching lifelong leadership skills. NYLT uses the patrol method to teach team leadership and centers around the concepts of what a leader must BE, what a leader must KNOW, and what a leader must DO. The course provides youth with the HOW TO skills they need to be strong leaders. 2014 Course Dates: Week 1: June 9-14 (coed Venturing course) Week 2: June 16-21 (coed Venturing course) Foxfire Youth Leader Training Foxfire will take what a Scout learned at National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) and bring it to a whole new level. Scouts will work as a crew to complete many challenges put before them, including Dutch oven cooking, tomahawk throwing, black powder rifle shooting, forging, and other team building games and activities. Beyond developing a better understanding of the leadership skills taught at NYLT, Scouts will gain knowledge that will help them in the “real world” including resume writing and interview skills. Scouts that have completed Foxfire are sought after for positions on camp and event staffs due to Foxfire’s emphasis on staff development. Foxfire is a unique experience that should be the goal of any youth in our council. 2014 Course Dates: June 14-21 Century of Honor The LDS Church organized a Community Scouting Open House to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the partnership between The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Boy Scouts of America. Empowering Volunteers, Empowering You! Units that have membership growth and retention have three key components: a strong, vibrant Scouting program; engaged volunteers; and someone on the unit committee who is responsible for membership. The unit membership chair is the unit committee member who will focus on membership growth and retention of the unit. This new position is similar to the district or council membership chair who is responsible for growth in the district or the council. Membership volunteers are the backbone of our efforts to recruit more youth into the BSA. To impact the lives of youth in each unit, volunteers must be more engaged. Easy to say, but how do they do it? There are new online resources for the unit membership chair and council membership/relationship chair, available at http://www.scouting.org/scoutsource/Membership/Youth_Recruitment/Membership_Chairman.aspx. These resources will assist those with this new responsibility in areas that include community projects, membership analyses, marketing, Webelos-to-Scout transition plans, and much more! Other resources to assist your council in membership can also be found at www.scouting.org/membership. All volunteers responsible for membership in their council, district, or unit can find practical methods, new videos, and ideas for developing and implementing successful membership campaigns. Sometimes all you need to get on the right course is a good map. Here’s to steering your recruiting efforts in the right direction! How to Enter Unit Service Hours Online Click Here for Instructions. Almighty God, You are our Creator and Sustainer. You are our Light and our Fortress. You are our Wisdom and our Strength. Lord, you moved upon men to establish this great nation. You stirred men to hope and to dream for a land of freedom. We praise you for this great nation. Lord, you have inspired many of our best and brightest to volunteer to proudly stand and defend our beloved country. You have given us brave and loyal men and women who have steadfastly served in their chosen branch of our military. We gather today to remember our military personnel. We acknowledge that their service enables us to walk as free men and women in this great land. Lord, today we seek to honor your sons and daughters who have served or who are serving our country. We are reminded that because of their service we can live in safety. We ask that you abundantly bless those who have previously served. May their service time be rewarded in every way. May they gain earthly and heavenly blessings from their unselfish love of country. Lord, we stop now and remember those who are currently serving. We ask that you provide them with your protection, your strength, and your peace. We ask that you would abundantly provide for all their needs. We ask that you would enable them to overcome every personal and professional obstacle. We ask that you would protect their families from hurt and harm. May each of our veterans feel honored not just today but every day. Father, we also give special recognition to our wounded warriors. We realize that many of our heroes are dealing with physical and emotional wounds that occurred as a result of their time of service to our country. We ask that they would be given the best treatments available and that you would add your supernatural blessings to all the efforts given to them to help them. We ask that you, Lord, would show them miracles as they seek to gain health, stability, and wholeness.
