Tahquitz Camporee

The Tahquitz Camporee had a good attendance with 75 scouts and about half as many adults.  The program was held at Boseker Scout Reservation/Camp Emerson at the Lake and Fort areas.  After checking in early Saturday morning at the Meadow, the participants were guided to the Centennial Loop trailheads to start their wilderness journey.  Each cohort patrol rotated through ten activity stations throughout the day.

  • Two Man Saw (only thing cut was the log)

  • Fishing (well over 2 dozen bluegill caught and released!)

  • Hawk throw (no missing ears)

  • Canoeing (splashing, but nobody flipped)

  • Branding (no burns)

  • Maze in the Fort (a few tumbles)

  • Compass course with animal tracks and scat identification (still see many scouts need more training taking bearings)

  • Buffalo Hunt (Velcro ping pong balls couldn’t bring down the beast, but it was fun trying)

  • Teepee village showing animal hides (so that’s what a cleaned skunk smells like) and promoting Leadership training from ILST, NYLT and Foxfire (interest perking up)

The day ended back at the Meadow for the OA call-out ceremony.  In addition, each troop was awarded a special commemorative mountain man metal made by artisan Kelly C.

Thanks to all that helped put the program together: Julie Stevens, Keith Weinrich, Tina Roy, Kelly Cromwell, Travis Pipoly, Carl Vicnaire, and Angie Dankes,

And special thanks to our added volunteers for helping that weekend: Bryan Walker (and his Life Guards – Nolan and Logan Grant), Preston Wright from T337, Anthony Tryhane from T337, Ellie Flannery from C604, and T148 - Ken and Paula Radosevich, Chase Ramos, Adam and Alex Truax.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKVbkzH6Zts

Dear Scouts and families,

You can’t spell Scouting without “outing”, and we are excited to invite you to a weekend of celebrating the great outdoors!  Momentum: Discover, a nation-wide, virtual event hosted by the Order of the Arrow will take place April 23rd-24th. Momentum: Discover will bring us back to our roots and help us re-discover the joy of camping! The event will feature more than a dozen hours of live, original content focused on the outdoors. Competitions with the national officers of the Order of the Arrow, training sessions, and special guests are just a sample of the many activities to participate in over the weekend! All Scouts are invited to take part, regardless of membership in the Order of the Arrow. More information about the event can be found at momentum.oa-bsa.org.

We hope you’ll participate in this great event. You can watch the livestream for free as a basic delegate or register as a premium delegate.  Premium delegates get the full event experience in exchange for a $25 registration fee: access to the community platform, the event wide game, access to archived content, and the Momentum: Discover patch and sticker.

There’s nothing like the great outdoors and we hope you will join us for this fun event for the entire family.  Visit momentum.oa-bsa.org to learn more and register for Momentum: Discover!
